Make an invoice PDF in the browser without creating an account

A freelance invoice is a short document with a high cost of getting the privacy model wrong. Many billing apps want an account, a company workspace, and a copy of every client name on their server. If you send three invoices a month, that is a lot of product for a PDF.

Invoice Studio builds the PDF in your browser. You type the lines. The page renders the document. You download it. We do not receive the invoice. We do not run a billing server that stores your clients.

What stays on the device

Client-side here means the page sends code to your tab. Your browser holds the draft. If Invoice Studio saves a draft, it uses storage in that browser (IndexedDB or localStorage) on your computer. Clearing site data removes those drafts. Export anything you need to keep.

We do not get an email list. We do not get line items. Polar is not in this flow unless you later buy a Pro key for a different product. Invoice Studio’s core job is a local PDF.

How to make an invoice

1. Open https://invoice.sw-commercial.com.
2. Fill your business name, the client name, and the line items. Use the real currency and tax labels the client expects.
3. Check the preview. Dates, invoice numbers, and payment notes are easy to get wrong if you rush.
4. Download the PDF. Send it yourself from your own mail. We do not send it for you, because we never had the file.

You do not create an account first. You do not wait for a “verify your email to download” wall. Free use is the product, not a 14-day timer.

Quotes and receipts use the same private model. Pick the document type the other party asked for. A quote is not an invoice. A receipt is not a tax filing. The PDF is a document you control.

Numbering, logos, and what the PDF cannot do

Keep a numbering scheme you can explain later: year plus a counter is enough for most sole traders. Do not reuse a number. If you work in more than one currency, say so on the page and in the filename.

A logo helps recognition. Add it from a file on your computer. That image is part of the same local document. It is not uploaded to a brand kit in our cloud, because we do not run one.

Invoice Studio does not file tax. It does not talk to your bank. It does not chase payment. Those jobs belong to you, your accountant, or software you chose for that purpose. This page is for the PDF you attach.

When a full billing suite is the right tool

If you need recurring subscriptions, team seats, and a client portal, a hosted invoicing product may fit. The trade is that the host stores the ledger. Invoice Studio is for people who want the opposite: a branded PDF without a second account, for work that already lives in email and a spreadsheet.

What we do not do

We do not store the invoice. Ads, if shown on the page, are labeled and do not receive the document contents. The Chrome extension SW Toolbox does not replace Invoice Studio; it is for files you already have (images, PDFs, QR). 0 ads in the extension.

If you use Cursor or Claude and want file tools from the agent, read tools.sw-commercial.com/mcp. The hub binds to 127.0.0.1:17321 on your computer after you start it. Invoice drafts still belong in the browser unless you copy them there yourself.

A note on drafts

Because drafts can live in the browser, treat this device as the filing cabinet. If you switch laptops, export the PDF first. If you share a family computer, download and close the tab. Incognito will not keep a draft after the window closes, which is a feature when you are on a borrowed machine.
